What this is, and isn’t

An estimate, not a quote. It’s built from our installed prices for typical window sizes. Your final price depends on exact measurements and the fabric and hardware you choose, and we confirm it in writing at the free in-home visit, before you commit to anything.

What affects the price

  • Style and fabric. A light-filtering roller shade and a lined Roman shade are very different amounts of material and work.
  • Size. Wide and tall windows need more fabric, stronger mechanisms and sometimes a motor to be practical.
  • Motorization. A motor adds to each window; one remote or app can then run the whole room.
  • Shape and mounting. Bay windows, arches, skylights and sliding doors take more measuring and fitting time.

Cost for a whole house

Most DMV homes we see have between 12 and 25 windows, and very few use one style everywhere. Count the windows room by room, add blackout for the bedrooms and something light-filtering for the living spaces, and the calculator totals it for you. Whole-house orders are also where an in-home visit pays off, because we can often suggest where a less expensive style will do the same job.

How much are motorized blinds?

Motorizing adds a set amount per window on top of the style you choose, and step 3 above shows exactly how much. Battery motors recharge every several months and need no wiring, so they suit existing homes. Wired motors make sense during a renovation or new build, before the drywall goes up.

Outdoor patio blinds cost

Outdoor screens are priced per opening, not per square foot, because the housing, side tracks, motor and controls cost about the same whatever the size. Add each opening of a porch, patio or pergola as one unit. More about outdoor screens.

How to measure your windows first

You don’t need a tape measure to use the calculator. Walk the house and count the windows in each room, note any that are unusually large (a sliding door, a picture window, anything floor to ceiling) and pick the size option that best fits the mix. We measure every opening precisely at the visit.

Questions

Is this estimate a quote?

No. It's a price range built from typical window sizes. We confirm your exact price in writing at the free in-home visit, after measuring, and before you commit to anything.

What's included in the price?

The calculator shows installed prices: measuring, the made-to-measure product, and installation by our team.

Do I need exact measurements first?

No. Count your windows and tell us roughly how big they are. We measure every opening ourselves at the visit, so a tape measure isn't required to get a useful range.

Can every style be motorized?

Every style except smart film (which is already electric) can be motorized, with a rechargeable battery motor or a wired one. Choose motorized in step 3 to see the difference.

Why are outdoor screens priced per opening?

Most of the cost of an outdoor screen is the housing, side tracks, motor and controls, which are needed whatever the size. Pricing per square foot understates small openings, so we price per opening.

Is the in-home consultation free?

Yes. We bring samples to your home, measure every window and leave you with a written quote. There's no charge and no obligation.
