An estimate, not a quote. It uses our real installed price list and the sizes you enter. We measure every opening ourselves and put the final price in writing at the free in-home visit, before you commit to anything.
How our prices work
Window coverings are priced by area, not per window, because a patio door takes four times the material of a bathroom window. Ours work like this:
- Area. Width × height ÷ 144 gives square feet.
- Minimum. Every style has a smallest billed area. A tiny window bills at the minimum.
- Rate. Billed square feet × the style's installed rate per square foot.
- Extras. Fabric and hardware upgrades, then a motor if you want one.
A 36″ × 60″ window is 15 square feet, so at $15 per square foot, faux wood blinds come to $225 installed.

How much are motorized blinds?
Motorizing is a flat amount per window on top of the style you choose. Battery motors recharge a few times a year and need no wiring, so they suit a finished house. Hardwired motors make sense during a renovation, before the drywall goes up.
| Style | Battery motor | Hardwired |
|---|---|---|
| Faux wood blinds, Real wood blinds, Roller shades, Solar shades, Zebra shades, Skylight shades | +$425 | +$700 |
| Cellular shades | +$450 | +$725 |
| Roman shades | +$475 | +$750 |
| Sheer curtains, Blackout curtains | +$750 | +$950 |
| Heavy-duty outdoor screens, motorized | Motor included in the price | |
| Composite plantation shutters, Wood plantation shutters, Smart film, Exterior solar screens, Outdoor roll-down blinds | Not motorized | |
One app and voice hub, $300, is added per home when you motorize 2 or more windows.
Outdoor patio screens
Outdoor screens are priced the same way, but with a large minimum billed area, because the housing, side tracks, motor and controls cost much the same whatever the width. That's why a narrow opening isn't much cheaper than a wide one. More about outdoor screens.
Sales tax in DC, Maryland and Virginia
- Virginia: No sales tax is added on installed window coverings in Virginia.
- Maryland: 6% Maryland sales tax on the product portion. Installation labor is separately stated and not taxed.
- Washington DC: DC sales tax on the product portion (6.5%, rising to 7.0% on 1 October 2026). Installation labor is separately stated and not taxed.
How to measure your windows
Use a steel tape. Measure the width of the window opening in three places, top, middle and bottom, and use the narrowest. Measure the height from the top of the opening to the sill. Enter both above in inches, to the nearest eighth, or switch to centimetres if that's easier. For an estimate you don't need to be exact, and you should never order from your own measurements — that's our job, and our mistake to fix if it's wrong.
Questions
Is this estimate a quote?
No. It's built from our installed price list and the sizes you type in. We measure every opening ourselves and confirm the price in writing at the free in-home visit, before you commit to anything.
What's included in the price?
The product, the in-home measure, installation by our team, and hauling away your old blinds where that applies. Prices are per window, by size.
Why is a small window not cheaper?
Every style has a minimum billed area, because a small shade still takes a full measure, a cut-to-size build and an installation visit. Below that size, the minimum applies.
How exact do my measurements need to be?
Close is fine. Measure the width and height of the window opening to the nearest eighth of an inch and the estimate will be in the right range. Don't order from your own numbers — we measure on site.
What happens with a very wide window?
Past a certain width, a covering is built as two or more units side by side. The price per square foot doesn't change, but each unit carries its own hardware and motor.
Do I pay sales tax?
In Virginia, no sales tax is added on installed window coverings. In Maryland and DC, tax applies to the product portion only, and the calculator shows it separately.
Is the in-home consultation free?
Yes. We bring samples to your home, measure every window and leave you with a written quote. There's no charge and no obligation.
